Many people day trade the S&P Emini and the market can be very lucrative. If the futures trader implements a proper Emini trading system using money management, technical indicators, market profile, and rules, the futures trader is liable to have a positive outcome. So, what makes these E-mini S&P Emini contracts so popular with the for a day trader?
The S&P Emini contract is derived from the all so popular S&P 500 Stock Index. The S&P 500 Stock Index is well thought to be the bench mark index of the United States economy. It entails having 400 industrial companies, 40 utility companies, 40 financial companies, and 20 transportation companies strong even spread diversified strength to the US economy. If the S&P 500 Index is bullish and has positive movement, it is concluded that the US economy is on an upswing and thriving, if bearish and red, the economy is considered to be in a downturn.
S&P Emini contracts are traded at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). When the first S&P Emini contracts were introduced to a futures trader, the price or face value of the contract was $500 times the S&P 500 Index point increase. Using a correct Emini trading system could yield a 15 point increase delivering a price worth $7500. As time passed, the value of the index reached 1000 and the futures contract become too pricey for the average future trader to trade.
The Emini future trading contract was lowered to $250 in 1997, splitting the size in half. Soon thereafter another futures contract by the name of S&P Emini Futures contract was created. The value was equal to $50 times the index points, 1/10 of the S&P 500. This contract became very widespread to the futures trader and has introduced the Emini future trading you and I know today.
